Every month our church schedules an activity for the young children. This month we organized a tennis clinic for them.
We had great participation and the children loved it. I was suprised by how well they listened to the instruction and how long they stayed with it. We gave them instruction on how to hit a forehand and a backhand and then they played some games. We started at 12:30 and the kids were still hitting tennis balls at 2:30.
The kids loved interacting with some of our "seasoned" tennis players. I think the older ladies loved it too.
We talked about being a good sport and that Jesus said that we should treat others like we want to be treated.
At the end of the day one little boy who doesn't attend our church ran up to me and said, "Can we do this again? I loved it."
It is such a joy to work with children and watch their eagerness glisten in their eyes. They soaked up our every word. How wonderful it was to spread some of God's word into their lives through the physical abilities He has blessed us with. What a blessing it was to us, the instructors, to be encouraged by their pure and open hearts. God truly blessed us with a great day.

My Co-Captain & My Team
Labels:

Today is a sad day for me. The pretty lady in red is moving away from our area and will no longer be able to play on our tennis team. Not only is she a great tennis player (she plays line one at age 68 and wins 80% of the time) but she is also one of the finest women that I have ever known. Her heart is full of love and her words are full of compassionate wisdom. She has a rare sense of humor that can salvage the worst situation and make you laugh despite yourself. She has helped me through some difficult times with her steady, encouraging words and I will miss her terribly. I am very thankful she has been in my life.

Roland Garros Countdown

4 Days:15 Hours:31 Minutes:20 SecondsI'm not much of a TV watcher. I'd rather read or putter around the house and garden. However, there are exceptions. Four times a year I'm practically glued to the TV. The Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon & the U.S. Open are the 4 major professional tennis tournaments in a calendar year and I LOVE to watch them. Mr. Reserved loves to watch most sports... except, of course, tennis. During these tournaments Mr. Reserved and Miss G lose me to the sound of ball striking, fault calling and stat keeping that fascinates me. Meals are reduced to cold cereal and bologna sandwiches. Mr. Reserved, who loves me and encourages my interests, can be found doing most of my chores like the laundry and cleaning house. It's a time that I truly enjoy and it's rapidly approaching.
I started playing tennis when I was very young and still play almost weekly. My love of the game is influencing Miss G too. She loves for me to pitch tennis balls to her so she can hit them. One day I found her playing in the kitchen with some of my sweatbands and her tennis racket. Children really do try to become little copies of their parents. It's a scary proposition.
If you haven't watched a tennis match in a long time, check out a couple of tennis greats and watch either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros this year.
